THINGS TO DO IN SUFFOLK & NORFOLK

Bressingham Steam & Gardens

Just a 15-minute drive from Wild & West farm you’ll discover Bressingham, star of Channel 5’s Inside The Steam Train Museum and home to a world-famous plant collection and amazing feats of industrial engineering. Take a steam-engine ride on one of four narrow-gauge railways or wander through the tranquil linking gardens (there’s also a garden centre for all you horticulturists).

Stay awhile
The on-site café will satisfy rumbling tummies, but don’t rush off without admiring (or taking a ride on) the Gallopers – colourful carousel horses built by Savages of Kings Lynn in 1897 and still spreading joy. You’ll probably need at least four hours at Bressingham, but you can easily spend all day as there’s an outdoor play area and a fairground that includes a Penny Arcade, Crazy Golf, Quad Bike Circuit, and other smaller fairground rides. (Note: the fairground is privately owned and cash-only, while the main site is card-only.)

While the kids go play…
Fans of TV classic Dad’s Army can visit a recreation of Walmington on Sea, the fictional home to Captain Mainwaring and his men, featuring original props and vehicles from the series. (Bressingham is the official home of the Dad’s Army Appreciation Society's collection).

Getting there
You’ll find Bressingham 2.5 miles west of Diss and 14 miles east of Thetford on the A1066. All in all, it’s the perfect spot for relaxing, taking in the scenery, hopping on a ride or two and enjoying all the fun of the fair (but avoid bringing your pooch unless he/she is a registered assistance dog!). Check out Bressingham’s operating calendar before you visit – you might catch one of their Model Railway Days or Bressingham At Night events).
